Solan: A home guard was arrested by the Solan police for shooting and injuring at his wife using his service rifle at Damroh village near here on Sunday night.
Confirming the news, additional SP Shiv Kumar Sharma said the home guard, Bhupinder Singh, was on sentry duty at Parwanoo from where he left in a taxi without informing his seniors. He carried his service weapon, a 303 rifle, along with him and went to his in-laws’ house. His wife, Suman, two children and his mother-in-law were sleeping at the house.
He knocked on the door and when no one opened he fired two shots at the door. A bullet went through the door and hit his wife in the leg. Fearing for their lives, everyone hid in a small puja room. Bhupinder broke into the house. After failing to enter the small room, he fired five shots, one of which hit his wife in the left shoulder. The others were not hurt.
Bhupinder left the scene and was later apprehended by the police. Suman was referred to PGI Chandigarh after preliminary treatment at the local regional hospital. Her condition is stated to be stable.
A case under sections 307 and 452 of the IPC and under the Arms Act has been regiatered against Bhupinder and further probe was on. The taxi driver has also been nabbed under section 34 of the IPC.
