Solan: With its 33-year old quality assurance (QA) executive testing positive at Panchkula today, pharmaceutical unit Sun Pharma at Bhatoli Kalan village in Barotiwala has been sealed.
The said executive, who was residing at Panchkula, had visited his company in April as well as in May when it resumed production. Two hotels where he had stayed have been converted into quarantine centres with people residing there directed to remain indoors, informed SP Baddi, Rohit Malpani.He said guards have been posted outside the pharma company as well as outside the two hotels to prohibit entry of people.
Police swung into action soon after receiving information from the officials at Panckhula. Panic gripped the local administration as this is the first case where a pharmaceutical employee, who had attended office, has tested positive. His contact mapping was underway and since several executives of various companies were staying at the two hotels located on the Sai Road and on the Baddi-Nalagarh highway, the police face a Herculean task to identify all his contacts.Dr NK Gupta, medical officer health, Solan, informed that the said executive had come to Baddi on April 12 and he had stayed there till April 21 after which he had returned home. He had again come back on April 28 and had stayed here till May 5 after which he had returned back to Panchkula.
As many as 170 employees were working in the two day shifts and another 100 in the night shift. Production activity was gradually picking up in the said company and the night shift had begun only days ago. The said executive was suffering from blood pressure, informed sources in the hotel where he had stayed.
Nearly 745 industrial units are operational in the Baddi-Barotiwala-Nalagarh industrial belt which houses 89 per cent of the state’s industry and about 34, 000 workers were engaged in manufacturing activities.
